French in Motion & Upptown Flicks NY are thrilled to present the Screening of "Cartoonists - Footsoldiers of Democracy" a feature-length documentary directed by Stéphanie Valloatto who will be in attendance for a Q&A - Followed by a cocktail reception for all attendees! 

In 2014, one year before the Charlie Hebdo attacks, filmmaker Stéphanie Valloatto collaborated with Plantu, a longtime cartoonist for Le Monde, to create a documentary about 12 cartoonists from around the globe whose work centers on the theme of democracy. The film delves into the daily risks these artists face - often putting themselves on the front lines - and the powerful reactions and debates their work sparks. A decade later, and following a cartoonist's resignation from The Washington Post, the documentary remains strikingly relevant, offering a nuanced perspective on the state of freedom of expression and democracy in today’s world.
