This first week of September was marked by the Impressionist Movement!
On Friday, September 6th, French in Motion, in partnership with Villa Albertine in Washington, D.C., had the pleasure of organizing a special screening at the Maison Française for students.
Students from Lycée Rochambeau, Duke Ellington School of the Arts, and Georgetown University had the opportunity to watch the captivating film 1874, The Birth of Impressionism and engage in a lively discussion with co-director Julien Johan after the screening.
It was a wonderful way to kick off the year! A big thank you to the teachers for helping us organize this amazing event and to the students for their enthusiasm and insightful questions.
Stay tuned and reconnect with us in a few days to catch a glimpse of their reactions on our social networks.

After the students, the public was invited to the premiere of 1874, The Birth of Impressionism at the National Gallery of Art in Washington on September 8th! Seeing over 400 people attend this American premiere was truly amazing.
The energy in the room was electric, and it was such a pleasure to be there with Stéphane Millière from GEDEON MEDIA GROUP and Julien Johan, the film’s co-director.
A huge thanks to Ambassador of France Laurent Bili for the inspiring introductory remarks, and to the National Gallery of Art and Joanna Raczynska for making it all happen. We also extend our thanks to everyone who joined us: curators of the exhibition, Paris 1874: The Impressionist Moment, Kimberly A. Jones and Mary Morton, along with other distinguished personalities from the arts, culture, and media. The event was organized as part of the inauguration of the exhibition, which has already been a huge success at the Musée d'Orsay from March to August 2024 and opened this Sunday in Washington.
More screenings will be held at the National Gallery through January. Dates and registration are available here: [Link to event information].
A special shoutout to Danielle Moussalli and Emanuel Miranda from French in Motion DC for their dedication and hard work in helping to make these two events a success.
It’s moments like these that make everything worthwhile. Here’s to many more inspiring events ahead!
