DX Submissions now open for 2025
SAVE THE DATE: DX RETURNS OCT. 30-NOV. 2, 2025
Mark your calendars for October 30, when Double Exposure, the United States' only investigative film festival and symposium, opens its eleventh season in Washington, DC.
The unique mission that launched Double Exposure 10 years ago, to celebrate and support work at the crossroads of investigative journalism and visual storytelling, feels more timely than ever. The finest investigative films have a unique power to create understanding and connection across cultural, economic, and physical borders--something we hold onto in these turbulent times.
Within our broad programming, DX2025 will center short docs, celebrating their immediacy, versatility, and potential impact. We'll have panels and workshops for filmmakers working in the short doc space, networking for journalism organizations eager to connect with documentary filmmakers, and an expanded slate of short documentaries. Stay tuned for more on special events and the 2025 festival theme.
Early bird passes go on sale May 15, offering access to all film screenings, symposium sessions, and networking events.
We can't wait to see you at DX!
DX SURVEY UPDATE: WEIGHING IN
Thanks to all of you who responded to our recent survey to gauge your needs and priorities, looking forward. Here's what you told us about what's most important to you in 2025.
Most of you want to maintain the current form of Double Exposure, balancing film screenings and the symposium discussions, workshops, and networking opportunities, preferably with the current footprint.
Financial support for investigative projects is getting harder and harder to fund.
There's great interest in cross-sector collaboration between journalists and filmmakers to tell important stories.
Similarly, you want to strengthen the community through in-person and virtual meetups, and
You're deeply concerned about the state of democracy and want to see 100Reporters and Double Exposure tackle the big stories of our time.
There's lots more in the details. Your feedback is lighting the way as we map out the future of 100Reporters and Double Exposure, and as we program this year's festival. Stay tuned for more.
EARLY BIRD SUBMISSIONS NOW OPEN
Submit your film--short or feature length--on FilmFreeway by July 7 for an early bird discount! If you’ve made a new film that's investigative in nature, whether narrative or documentary, reach out to tell us about it or go ahead and submit it at FilmFreeway. DX screens only new, unreleased films that are world, U.S., or Washington premieres. If you're unsure whether your film is investigative, reach out to us at info@dxfest.com, with "Submission Query" in the subject line. Tell us about your project, and we'll help clarify whether it's a likely fit for DX.
OPEN CALL FOR VOLUNTEER SCREENERS
Double Exposure is seeking film screeners to join its corps of dedicated volunteers. As a volunteer screener, you will get a first peek at submissions, watch and rank films, and assist festival programmers by providing initial feedback. Candidates should have a love of documentary filmmaking and/or investigative journalism, and have the bandwidth to view films on an agreed schedule. Your involvement will help Double Exposure evaluate unsolicited films, some by filmmakers unknown to us, in our bid to bring previously unrecognized voices and visions before the public.
